Marquis Mills Converse started the Converse Rubber Shoe Company in 1908 in Massachusetts.
In 1916, Converse began making basketball shoes. In 1922, the basketball great, Chuck Taylor, asked the company to create a supportive shoe that was flexible. Converse added his signature to the ankle patch and the shoes became known as Chuck Taylor All Stars.
Celebrity signatures brought about the public signing the shoes. This became a social detail.
In July 2003 Converse became a subsidiary of Nike as the shoe giant bought Converse for $309 million.

In 1948, PUMA introduced the PUMA SUPER ATOM. These were the world’s first boot with screw-in studs.
